If your search was thorough, then you already knew before you started looking, exactly what you wanted. Photojournalism or traditional photos, color or black-n-white, or different mixtures of these.
A couple of other things you probably considered, reviewed, and talked about along the way:
You checked that the photographer really loves to do weddings. Some photographers don't. They do not like the stress of no re-shoots, of the fast-paced action, and dealing with so many people with many different requests.
If your wedding is outdoors, does your photographer like to shoot outdoors, and all of the related issues this presents?
